When lifting a heavy object such as a piano, you need to go back to basics. Lifting heavy objects incorrectly is one of the most leading causes of back spasms, pain, and injury.

When you lift a piano, it is important to be conscious, intentional, and calculated with how you move your body. It doesn’t matter whether you are moving the piano to another spot in your house or trying to load it into a truck to take to another location. You must remember that the correct technique for lifting a heavy piano is quite different from how you would instinctively lift one.

What Happens If You Lift a Piano Incorrectly?

It is essential to know what is at stake before you lift a piano incorrectly. When anyone – except for experts and professionals – lifts heavy objects, they put themselves at risk of back injury. The worst part is those back injuries take loads of time to heal as well.

Some people may suffer from lower back issues as their range of motion may get affected, along with their mobility.
Here is why you should never lift a piano without professional help:

1.Muscle Injuries

When you lift a piano incorrectly, you may suffer from a muscle injury. The sudden jerk in movement can cause stress to the muscles and could even cause them to tear in severe cases. This is known as a muscle strain.
Even though it may not be the most serious injury, it is definitely the most painful one. If you get a strained muscle in your back, you will be in pain for weeks as the healing time is extremely slow.

2.Disc Injuries

When you move incorrectly or put too much strain on your muscles, you can easily rupture a disc. Between the spine’s vertebrae are cushions that are vulnerable to breaking and bulging due to sudden movements.
If you rupture a disc in your back, you will feel a terrible burning sensation in your legs and buttocks. This will be accompanied by shooting pain. Why go through such unpleasantness when you can hire a professional moving company?

3.Broken Fingers or Toes

As amateurs, we are not used to lifting heavy objects without support. This means that even without meaning to and regardless of how careful you are, the object may slip from your grasp and land on your toes or twist your fingers.
When you lift a piano incorrectly, you may feel intense muscle pain, causing you to drop the piano instantly. If this lands on your toes or feet, it can cause a serious injury. After all, a piano is made from solid, heavy materials that are meant to be handled with care.

The moral? Do not lift a piano or any other heavy object yourself. Always allow professional movers to do this job while you sit back and relax.
